About This Position

The Department of Public Health Sciences – Prevention Science and Community Health at the University of Miami, Miller School of Medicine, has an exciting opportunity for a Temporary, Part-Time Research Assistant. Under general direction, assists the Sr. Research Assistant or other research investigators by performing research and experimentation support following established protocols.

The duties and responsibilities for this position may include, but are not limited to:

Sets-up and operates various scientific apparatus as needed

Performs various clerical duties including typing, answering phones, preparing correspondence, preparing and maintaining bibliographies, and completing applications and forms

Assists with research projects

Prepares and maintains culture media reagents

Orders laboratory supplies as needed

Interprets experimental test data

Performs various editorial duties

Reviews and edits various materials for publication; prepares publication schedules; orders books and other publications as requested

Attends and participates in meetings, conferences, and training groups as requested

Records research procedures and results. Maintains records, codes data for input for electronic data processing inputs and retrieves data electronically.

Minimum Qualifications

High school diploma or equivalent with at least one year of relevant work experience. Basic knowledge of medical terminology preferred. Skill in completing assignments accurately and with attention to detail. Ability to analyze, organize and prioritize work under pressure while meeting deadlines. Ability to process and handle confidential information with discretion. Ability to work evenings, nights, and weekends as necessary. Commitment to the University’s core values. Ability to work independently and/or in a collaborative environment. Ability to maintain records and inventories. Any relevant education, certifications and/or work experience may be considered.
