Summary/ Objective

East Side House Settlement is a community resource in the South Bronx. We are seeking a dynamic, hard-working and team player who shares our passion for providing exceptional services to meet the needs of children and families in the South Bronx and Northern Manhattan communities.

Harvest to Haven program is in response to the incredible increase in demand for food as a result of COVID-19-related job loss and income insecurity. Through this program, East Side House purchases surplus crop from farmers, and distributes it, along with other pantry items, to families in need. To date we continue to serve thousands of families on a weekly basis.

East Side House is seeking exceptionally qualified candidates for the role of Warehouse Associate. The ESH Harvest to Haven Warehouse Associate will work at the direction of the Harvest to Haven Distribution & Inventory Coordinator to support food pantry operations including unloading, stocking, inventory and distribution.

Essential Functions:

Under the direct supervision of the Harvest to Haven Distribution & Inventory Coordinator, the Warehouse Associate & Driver responsibilities include but are not restricted to those listed below:

Assist with unloading weekly food delivery to stock ESH warehouse
Stock and shelve all food items adhering to all codes applicable to food storage. (Six inches off floor, eighteen inches from ceiling, keep pantry clean at all times, etc.)
Informs the Coordinator of any damaged or spoiled food items in the pantry
Maintains cleanliness of any work areas and reports any unsafe conditions to the Coordinator
Ensures assembly areas are stocked at the beginning and end of each day
Ensures that food packages contain all items needed for scheduled distributions
Assists with preparation for distribution events (ex. Secure supplies needed to execute event)
Assists with the distribution of food care packages during distribution events
Greets and receives all clients, visitors and partners in a pleasant manner
Ensures that the Food Pantry and all areas utilized for Food Pantry purposes are left in a clean and orderly fashion.
Ensures that the Food Pantry and all areas used for Food Pantry purposes are well stocked and prepared for daily operation purposes.

Required Skills/ Abilities

Proficiency in use of technology such as laptop computers and tablets;
Proficiency in Microsoft Excel for tracking inventory;
Thorough understanding of warehouse policies and procedures.
Good analytical skills and ability to make sound judgments relative to inventory.
Excellent communication, project management, and multi-tasking skills
Able to remain professional and courteous at all times.
Work Schedule

This is a part-time temporary position. Days and hours of work will range within Monday through Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. and occasional weekends. Work days/hours subject to change based on ESHs program needs.

Qualifications
Required Education and Experience:

High school diploma or the equivalent is required
Able to lift heavy boxes of 50 lbs or more a must;
Demonstrated cultural competence with respect to the South Bronx and New York City;
Understanding of New York Citys diversity and experience working with people of diverse backgrounds;
Certified in Food Safety by the NYC Department of Health and Mental Hygiene preferred;
Experience in food operations including produce preferred.
Work Environment

This job can operate in different sites such as warehouse and/or office.

Travel

Local travel is expected for this position.

Physical Demands

The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to talk or hear. They will also be required to lift 50 lbs. or more and ability to move around the warehouse. Must be able to complete various activities in the warehouse that may require hours of lifting, standing, and carrying.
