Visitor Services Assistant Manager

Reports To: Visitor Services Manager
Department: Visitor Services
FSLA: Non-exempt; Hourly
Pay: $14.00 per hour
Hours: 8 am to 5pm; Thursday – Monday (Tuesday & Wednesday off)


The Visitor Services Assistant Manager supervises the part-time Visitor Services Assistants which serve as public
relations ambassador’s for the Museum. This position is responsible for convening in-house interdepartmental
morning briefings to introduce daily activities, gallery changes, and encourage the sharing of information among
front-line staff for the benefit of the public. The Visitor Services Assistant Manager leads the Museum’s efforts
to communicate hours, admission fees and discounts, ticketing and program reservation, programming through
digital monitors and program information in the Museum Lobby. The Visitor Services Assistant Manager is the
lead staff member working the weekend shift and is responsible for visitor safety and visitor engagement.

Motivates and fosters productive teams; schedules full- and part-time Visitor Services Assistants and
volunteers. 

Greets and engages guests, bus tours, school groups and members to the Museum creating an
environment where the visitors feel welcome and comfortable, addressing visitor concerns and
informing them to hours of operation, exhibits and special events. 

Manages administrative and customer service duties, including memberships and prepaid tickets and
admission to the general public; operating computer registers and credit card machines; and preparing
deposits and change orders. 

Oversees Visitor Service on weekends, including oversight of Welcome Hosts and docents on the
weekends and maintains ownership of the process of resolving any issue or customer complaint that
arises. 

Verify safe balancing record and maintain proper opening and closing procedures. 
Maximizes revenue by communicating the on-site programs and enrolling members and visitors through

multiple mediums. 
Inspires discovery by providing information and literature to guests and members regarding the National

Cowboy & Western Heritage Museum and Oklahoma City. 
Conducts and compiles various reports using visitor data, to include by not limited to: zip code report,

attendance, create and conduct visitor surveys, 
Collaborates to develop positive professional relationships with intra-department peers, and the

development of standardization of practices throughout the Visitor Services Department. 
Serve as public relations ambassador and as an extension of the education staff by offering and

developing guides and activities that lead to richer and fuller participation. 
Works evenings during events. 
Attendance is an essential part of this position. 
Other duties as assigned.

National Cowboy & Western Heritage Museum


Bachelor’s business, communications, museum studies, or related field or equivalent education and
experience combination. 

Experience with working with database software 
May be required to have a valid driver’s license 
Must possess excellent oral and interpersonal communication skills 
Outgoing personality with strong diplomacy 
Ability to lead and direct staff and some front-line volunteers 
Effectively work with a wide range of constituencies in a diverse community 
Must be able to stand for long periods of time and walk long distances throughout the gallery’s 
Display a positive and enthusiastic attitude by being a team player 
Work closely with security to monitor and secure the facility 
Must be able to remain calm, gather facts and resolve the situation and/or make a determination in a

short period of time.
